But after a few years of getting school photos of my daughter Lucy, where she looked adorable but also like a very polite little stranger, I started to realize something was missing. They didn’t feel like her. And they looked just like every other kid in the class.

So I Started Doing School Photos My Way
When I show up on photo day, I don’t rush through a list. I bring a toot machine (yes, really), I tell silly jokes, and I give each kid a moment to warm up. If someone’s feeling shy or unsure, I back off and let them lead the pace. It’s not about getting the biggest smile—it’s about capturing them.
